Yesterday the world again witnessed the passing of other Gem “Rahat Indori” due to Covid-19. His Contribution to Urdu literature will always remain irreplaceable.
Rahat Qureshi(later known as Rahat Indori) was born on 1 January 1950 in Indore to a mill worker Rafatullah Qureshi and his wife Maqbool Un Nisa Begum. He was the youngest one in the family with three siblings. After completion of his Higher secondary from Nutan School Indore, he did his graduation from Islamia Karimia College, Indore in 1973. He completed his MA in Urdu literature from Barkatullah University, Bhopal and Was awarded Ph.D. in Urdu literature in 1985 for his thesis named as ” Urdu Main Mushaira“
He was also a former professor of Urdu language and a painter. Indori has performed on stage (also known as “Kavi Sammelan”) from the past 4 decades. He also had various Shows internationally in Countries like the USA, UK, Australia, and various others.
He was known for writing songs for almost 2 dozen of Bollywood movies and frequently contributed with Musician “Anu Malik” for movies like Ishq and Ghatak. There were many books written by him. some of his books were:
- Do Kadar or Sahi.
- Mere baad.
- Chand Pagal Hai.
His a Poem called “Bulati Hai Magar Jaane Ka Nahi” got viral in various Social Media platforms and was used to create videos and Memes.
On 11th of August which was also his last day on this world he tweeted:
कोविड के शरुआती लक्षण दिखाई देने पर कल मेरा कोरोना टेस्ट किया गया, जिसकी रिपोर्ट पॉज़िटिव आयी है.ऑरबिंदो हॉस्पिटल में एडमिट हूँ
दुआ कीजिये जल्द से जल्द इस बीमारी को हरा दूँ

Indori has admitted at CHL hospital Indore on August 9th due to Cough, fever, and nervousness. He was diagnosed with Pneumonia. After the test when he got Positive Corona report he was shifted to Aurobindo Hospital he suffered from Heart Attack twice and took his last breath around 5 pm on August 11.
His contribution to Urdu literature will always remain in our hearts and will always get acknowledgment by current and future generations.
