BALCO wins prestigious ‘Gold medal’ in the ‘National Awards for Manufacturing Competitiveness 2019-20’

Bharat Aluminium Company (BALCO), India’s iconic aluminium producer, won the prestigious ‘Gold medal’ in the national Awards for Manufacturing Competitiveness (NAMC) 2019-20’. The award was received by Mr Abhijit Pati, CEO & Director, BALCO in a virtual ceremony held on 13th February 2021. This prestigious award is the testimony of BALCO’s thrust in excellence in strategic cost reduction, value-added product volume, capacity expansion, coal security and leadership & management talent.

Abhijit Pati, CEO & Director, BALCO, expressed happiness over receiving the award and said, “Today we are living in a very exciting transformed business environment. BALCO is amongst the country’s top producers of one of the second most important metal in the world – aluminium, it alone produces nearly15% of the country’s aluminium, establishing the country on a global metal forum. BALCO has contributed to positioning aluminium as the ‘Metal of the future’ in the global scenario by producing best in class value-added products. BALCO has effectively optimized and excelled its overall performance through its focused approach to operational excellence practices, strategic cost reduction, value-added product volume, capacity expansion, coal security and leadership & management talent.”

BALCO has also rolled out technology-driven initiatives like installing GPS-enabled monitoring system in coal-carrying vehicles, implementation of BALCO sustainability mobile application and introducing artificial intelligence in operations, the company is actively exploring the field of smart technologies to enhance performance and boost production in the face of fierce global competition, and ensuring appropriate measures at the site subsequent to data-driven analytics for improved performance to achieve business objectives.

The National Awards for Manufacturing Competitiveness (NAMC) is instituted by the International Research Institute for Manufacturing (IRIM) in the year 2013. It is a unique awards program that recognizes non-conventional approaches and tailor-made strategies of organizations. This award recognizes manufacturing units who have adopted Global manufacturing practices in their journey to become world-class and are the gold standard for other companies in India to benchmark themselves to catalyze their own manufacturing process excellence.
