Construction of roads at a rapid pace in the state since the past two years, with 4050 projects approved with a budget provision of 13 thousand 230 Crore Rs.

Roads are the basis of a strong infrastructure and a solid foundation for the state’s development. Since the past two years, roads are being constructed at a rapid pace in the state by the state government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, making the lives of commuters smooth and barrier free. The progress in construction of roads has further strengthened the state’s road connectivity and has also eased in the facilitation of traffic to the villages. 4050 projects of roads and bridges construction, and repair and restoration work have been approved with a budget provision of 13 thousand 230 Crore Rs.

Additionally, Bhupesh Baghel launched the Mukhyamantri Sugam Sadak Scheme on 19th  June 2020, to connect all the inaccessible Government buildings, Haat Bazaars, fair sites, school-colleges, anganwadis, hospitals, crop storage centres, via a pucca road to the main road. To employ the unemployed youth of the state, the state government has implemented a scheme to register under the e-category. Additionally, work is under progress to implement the Dharsa Development Scheme by the Public Works Department soon. Within the scheme, the raw paths (dharsas) of the villages will be strengthened so that the rurals and their cattle can move freely, all around the year, with no fear of season change or monsoons.

In the financial year 2019-20 and 2020-21, the Public Works Department of the Chhattisgarh Government, has sanctioned Rs 13 thousand 230 crores, for the 4050 construction and restoration projects of roads and bridges. Out of this, 2648 crore 36 lakh rupees have been approved for 839 projects in the financial year 2019-20 and 1930 crore 37 lakh rupees for 274 projects in the financial year 2020-21. Apart from this, 8 thousand 400 crores Rs has been sanctioned for 768 projects under the Chhattisgarh Road Development Corporation (CGRDC) and Rs. 252 crores has been approved for 2 thousand 169 projects under the Mukhyamantri Sugam Sadak Scheme.

Public Work Department Minister Tamradhwaj Sahu stated that, the Government of Chhattisgarh is committed to building quality roads and bridges for smooth flow of traffic in the state. With this aim, new roads and bridges are being constructed at a rapid pace with maintenance and renewal of all the old roads with double layering and quality construction. 50 lakh contracts will be provided for construction works while providing employment to the local unemployed youth and utilising the local resources to the fullest. To ensure this, a new category “E” has been added, apart from the pre-existing categories “A” B “C” under the integrated registration system currently implemented by the department.
