Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has written letter to Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi, urging him to prioritize vaccination of socially and economically weaken sections of the society.
Chief Minister stated in the letter that as per the guidelines of Government of India, registration of the interested beneficiaries of age group 18-44 years has been started from April 28, 2021 through COWIN Portal for COVID vaccination. Although the state-wise information is not available on this portal, but nationwide nearly 1.7 crore citizens of this age group have registered themselves on COWIN portal for the vaccination.
According to the guidelines of Government of India, States have to procure vaccine doses for this age group at their own expenses. In the same sequence, Chhattisgarh Government has ordered 25-25 lakh doses of COVIshield and COVaxin from the producers. One of the producers i.e. Bharat Biotech has responded to the order query stating that only 3 lakh of these doses can be delivered by May month. Under these circumstances, when a large number of registrations are pouring in through the portal and not enough vaccine doses are available, this may create problems in crowd management at the social sites built for vaccination.
Chief Minister further mentioned in the letter that under these circumstances, keeping in view the shortage in supply of the vaccine doses, Government of India should divide the process of vaccinating this age group on priority basis. In the same sequence, the people from socially and economically weaker sections of the society should be given first preference. Reason being, the only mode of registration available for vaccination is online, and this may deprive the socially and economically weaker section.
At the end of the letter, Chief Minister Mr. Baghel has requested Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi that the facility of on-site registration should be made available again for the age group of 18-45 years as before so that no one gets deprived of vaccination.
